Gov. Chris Christie has announced that the State of New Jersey will move ahead and require schools to test their drinking water for lead.
Lead in school drinking water has become a major issue since its detection in Flint, Michigan & Newark schools. Click here to go to our Lead in Drinking Water - Schools and Child Care Facilities webpage. This webpage has important links including:
The USEPA Revised Technical Guidance, 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water in Schools that are served by public water systems. The 3Ts are Training, Testing & Telling. This applies to those schools which get their water from outside water sources. If a school has its own water system then the Lead & Copper Rule applies. The USEPA published this document in 2006.
Information from the USEPA, the NJDEP and Garden State Labs. Both the New Jersey Legislature and the United States Congress have proposed bills requiring schools to do lead testing in drinking water. The proposed bills are posted on this webpage.
Garden State Labs is certified for lead in drinking water analysis.
